Being a hill station has its own inconveniences. The nearest airport is the one at Madurai which lies at a distance of around 135 kms. Two other airports from where one could reach Kodaikanal are Coimbatore, at a distance of 170 kms and Trichy which is farther at 195 kms.

 The nearest railway station is the one at Kodai Road which lies downhill at a distance of 80 kms which is well connected with the rest of the state of the country. There are numerous taxis and buses to ferry the passengers to Kodaikanal.

Road transport to and from Kodaikanal is excellent and most tourists rely on road transport to get around.

Kodaikanal is an ideal hill resort for the tourists. It is situated at an altitude of about 2,133-m high and covers an area of 21.45-

sq-km. The hill town is famous for its educational institutions of international repute. The hill-plantain fruits and plums are known for their freshness and taste.

The prime attraction in Kodaikanal is Berijam Lake which located at a distance of
21-km from Kodaikanal and is one among the beautiful lakes of South India. Spread over an area of 24 hectares, the lake is star shaped and is known for its pure water.

The Palani hills in Kodaikanal are very famous for small time trekking. Overnight treks are also possible here where one can spend a night at a local village. Bryant Park situated on the eastern side of the lake, is noted for flowers, hybrids and rafts. Varieties of flowers can be seen in a glasshouse.

Kodaikanal Tourism and the annual horticultural show is held here in May. Kodaikanal Lake is a magnificent man-made lake, which spreads out in a star shape over sixty acres is a main

attraction as it is set among the greenery. The boat club here offers several pleasure and racing trips. Shenbaganur Museum is located about 5-Km from the lake.

The Sacred Heart College maintains this museum. One of the best orchidoriums in the country with more than 300 species of orchids and wide-ranging collection of birds are found here.

Bear Shola Falls is an ideal picnic spot located 1.6-km from the lake, which can be by a picturesque, rugged hill path. Silver Cascade waterfall is located on the Ghat Road about 8-km from Kodaikanal. The overflow of Kodai Lake comes down here as 180 feet high falls.

Tours to Kodaikanal - The nearest airport is at Madurai which is 120 kms from Kodaikanal. The nearest railway stations are the Kodai Road Railway Station (80-km) and the Palani Railway Station (64-km). Kodaikanal is connected by road with Chennai (520-km), Ooty (264-km), Trichy (197-km), Coimbatore (175-km), Kumili (160-km), and Madurai (120-km). Regular bus services are available from Madurai, Palani, Kodaikanal Road, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli, Kumili (Thekkady) and Coimbatore. Additional buses ply during the season. Taxis and vans are available for local transportation.
